Welcome to the DeLuca design blog!

Welcome to our first blog. We hope to use our website to build a community for other ISDs, as well as for our professional friends in partner industries and our customers. We want to address the questions, thoughts and concerns we share about learning.

Before the widespread use of technology to deliver training it was provided in one of two ways – either as instructor led training in the classroom or through hard copy self-paced learning out of manuals or books. Remember the days when training meant lugging home a thousand pages of “stuff” in a 3 or 4 inch three-ring binder? Shipping boxes were a standard part of the last training day.

Today it’s so much more. Our industry has finally adapted to the technology available to us! And we’ve begun to really endorse informal types of learning as appropriate to corporate America. The use of different technologies in what’s called a blended delivery format allows us to think in ways that can adapt training for the individual learner. For us that means finding ways to help people build on their own strengths and realize their dreams.

Being able to measure the improvement is a big part of this for organizations – especially in a tough economy. It can be built into a test – or testing “out”, or be part of learning management system but it’s often a simpler more personal system of measurement that’s used. Even with electronic delivery, a smile sheet is still just that – a record of how it went – not how effective it will be on the job.

We talk about human performance improvement because we think the definition of performance needs to be expanded. And that it’s critical each one of us is able to understand our starting point or baseline and then be able to measure the difference or improvement over time in an ongoing, future facing way.
